But finally there is Hope.
It's time for a Global Climate Restoration Plan based on The Climate Triad
Current temperatures are rapidly climbing well past safe levels, endangering lives and ecosystems while closing in toward "tipping points" that would rapidly lead to irreversible impacts. Evaluating the most recent data, a coalition of international experts has come together to create a better way forward to ensure humanity's future.
Global climate goals focus on limiting warming to 1.5° to 2° Celsius by 2050, seeking to do so almost exclusively through Emissions Reductions ALONE.
Despite over three decades of mainly pursuing the emissions-reduction-only approach, global warming is ALREADY about to exceed 1.5°C. And, in doing so, with the observed escalation of damaging impacts, we have now learned that even this much warming and climate disruption are TOO HIGH to be considered safe, not just for vulnerable peoples and locations, but for us all.
Despite this, most mainstream interest groups and governments are continuing to maintain that Emissions Reductions Alone will be adequate.
Our view is that despite efforts made and the growing availability of low cost solar and wind technologies, Emission Reductions ALONE, even augmented by Removals, no longer offers the prospect of preventing further warming and climate disruption. They can only slow the rate of warming, no matter how aggressively they are implemented.
Healthy Planet Action Coalition believes that we must URGENTLY cool the planet to well below 1°C to preserve life as we know it. We must also fix the underlying cause of the climate crisis, so that ecosystems can ultimately heal on their own.
It's time for a NEW Climate Accord:

COP 30 Climate Conference in Belem, Brazil in November, 2025
Safe and effective cooling methods like ecosystem restoration, sunlight reflection and other cooling methods (to slow and reverse planetary darkening) could affordably reduce temperatures to help prevent dangerous climate "tipping points" and preserve Arctic sea ice - in years - not decades.
The rapid phase out of fossil fuels and greenhouse gas pollutants is crucial to slow global warming while saving millions of lives currently lost from fossil fuels. This also reduces the amount of greenhouse gas removal and direct climate cooling necessary to bring temperatures back down to well below 1° C warming.
Greenhouse gas pollution has far exceeded safe levels, driving the climate crisis and requiring rapid removal by safe and effective means. Many strategies for GHG removal also boost crop resilience and restore ecosystems while helping to stabilize the climate.
If we continue warming, natural emissions could potentially rival man-made emissions. For example - forest fires, melting permafrost and warming oceans release methane and carbon dioxide, which creates even more warming.
While the ratio of the warming from current feedback loops may yet be unclear, there are potentially grave risks in allowing them to amplify unabated. We simply must reduce these "feedback loops" as soon as humanly possible, to buy ourselves the needed time to fix the root cause of global warming.
The Climate Triad is a holistic and effective solution that addresses ALL causes of global warming:
Reducing emissions, removing greenhouse gases and directly cooling the climate are each necessary, yet insufficient by themselves to restore a safe climate.
Emissions reductions and greenhouse gas removal can help set the stage for reducing temperatures while limiting how much direct cooling will be needed to stabilize temperatures.
Cooling the climate can slow or even prevent the activation of tipping points, moderate harm and suffering, and provide the essential time needed to fully decarbonize the global energy system and reduce excessively high greenhouse gas concentrations.
Because the three legs of the triad need to be addressed together, and because direct climate cooling will require equitable and effective global governance, a concerted and coordinated effort by the world community, a credible climate restoration plan is urgently needed.
Our planet is a web of interconnected ecosystems and weather patterns with societies tuned to their local and regional climates. With current global warming already near 1.5°C, vital ecosystems such as coral reefs, the Amazon Rainforest, and migrating species are already being lost or severely threatened around the world, and the world’s snow and ice, including the Greenland Ice Sheet, Arctic Sea Ice, permafrost and Antarctic Ice Sheet, are thawing and approaching tipping points that will have perilous consequences.
Earth's atmospheric winds and the now meandering jet stream are altering and intensifying storm tracks, and even ocean currents, including the global ocean circulation that brings to the surface nutrients for marine life, are being disrupted. These changes are leading to extreme temperatures on land and in the oceans, with potentially catastrophic loss of life for both people and animals around the world. At a fundamental level, these disruptions are weakening the blood stream, lungs, and respiratory systems of planet Earth.
We CAN and MUST urgently bring warming back to well below 1°C to protect life on Earth as we know it—and how communities and nations around the world have depended on it.
THE CLIMATE TRIAD STANDS FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE
Current temperature trajectories under the Paris Climate Accord have global temperatures reaching well beyond 3°C post-industrial warming.
The worst impacts affect those who can least afford it—those with low incomes and crowded in overheated cities, those living in low latitudes and in low-lying coastal areas, those facing job and housing discrimination, those most dependent for food on the land and the ocean, and especially those in countries who have contributed least to the climate crisis – especially in the Global South. Those with the least have the most to lose—both in terms of their possessions and their lives.
The Climate Triad offer real hope for all the planet's people.
Not just the privileged few.
Real Science
Using the most recent published data, a coalition of scientists and climate experts have created a better way forward to ensure humanity's future . A way that is actually capable of restoring a safe and healthy climate.
Real Solutions
Rather than the present approach of just slowing the increase in global temperatures and impacts, The Climate Triad offers an approach that in coming decades can help us restore a safe and healthy climate with the global average temperature well below 1°C above its preindustrial norm.
Real Hope
Restoring a safe climate would help protect the natural world and humanity - especially the most vulnerable people and least advantaged nations - while also reducing climate anxiety, protecting national and international security, democracy and reducing the number of environmental refugees, thus helping to ensure a livable planet for ourselves, our children and their children.
We can achieve a safe and healthy climate through the creation of a Healthy Climate Restoration Plan based upon The Climate Triad
